“That’s the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.” – Jhumpa Lahiri

Just wanted to share the above photo and message as part of the #AuthorsTakeAction online campaign with fellow authors and illustrators in children’s and young adult literature. We want to encourage people continue to shelter in place–and enjoy books! It’s been nearly a month for most states and getting used to this new normal to counter the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19). To say it’s been a challenge for many folks is an understatement. We’ve closed businesses, government offices, schools, public events and more in a coordinated effort to keep coronavirus risk low. For an accurate, real time view of the Covid-19 pandemic, check out this site, created and run by Seattle, WA high school junior, Avi Schiffmann. Stay safe, everyone!

About the above photo: I’m holding two books that have published within the last few years: THANKU: Poems of Gratitude (Millbrook Press) was released in 2019 and I’m honored to be one of the contributing poets. A portion of the proceeds for this book goes toward the nonprofit, We Need Diverse Books. HONU AND MOA (BeachHouse Publishing) was released in late 2018.
